As Erin Dietrich was nearing her due date, she found it increasingly difficult to sleep through the night. What kept her occupied during the sleepless nights of late pregnancy was her ability to sympathize with a pregnant giraffe over 700 miles away.
“It’s the most ridiculous thing, but in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep, I’d be like, ‘Oh, let me check on April and see if she’s had her baby yet,'” Dietrich said in an interview.
The video showed a pregnant Dietrich wearing a giraffe mask and pacing her bedroom, mimicking the viral April the Giraffe video feed posted by the Animal Adventure Park in New York.
Erin went into labor yesterday and livestreamed again – but this time from a hospital room. While labor and delivery can be a stressful and tiresome feat, Dietrich couldn’t help but have a little more fun with the giraffe mask.
The video showed her sitting in bed, wearing the same giraffe head from her original video. She could be seen blowing kisses to the camera, shrugging her shoulders, and swaying from side to side.
After the birth of her son, Dietrich took to Facebook to share the wonderful news and her announcement was ridiculously hilarious in a way that only the internet would understand.
Congratulations on your newest family addition! Let’s hope April’s own bundle of joy isn’t too far behind.
